WHAT: ARTISTA is a free theatre mentorship program for young women and people of marginalized genders ages 16-21 who are comfortable in a space that centres the experiences of women.
ARTISTA empowers participants to tell their own stories and share these stories with the world. Participants explore performance creation through theatrical experimentation under the mentorship of professional artists, with the objective of building independence and confidence in themselves and their artistic craftsmanship.
Imago Theatre’s supportive and brave learning environment encourages participants to develop self-confidence, artistic vocabulary, and gain a sense of community.
WHEN: ARTISTA takes place over the course of 15 weeks, from January to May, on Monday nights, from 5-9PM. Each session starts with vegan and gluten free dinner provided for all participants.
Each session is an opportunity for participants, mentors, and special guests - invited accomplished artists with diverse practices - to gather, share, discuss, and collectively turn their minds toward the world. In these sessions, participants bravely engage in creation workshops focusing on a variety of theatre practices.
HOW: Mentors guide participants in crafting stories, supporting them toward a public performance on May 26th at the Geordie Vanier Cultural Centre.
Attending these sessions as well as live performances as a group provides insight into the diverse facets of the Montreal and the Canadian theatre industry and nurtures participants’ critical thinking and artistic vocabulary.
