Second City Toronto
1 York St
If you’ve ever watched Pride & Prejudice or Bridgerton and thought, “This could be gayer,” then A Suitable Match is the show to see!
Written by filmmaker and comedian A.C. Birch, A Suitable Match (aka Gay Bridgerton) is a trans and gay romantic comedy. The story centers on a lovesick trans man who tries to arrange a "lavender marriage" for his closeted best friend. But as feelings, scandals, and a touch of lesbian chaos complicate things, he’s forced to confront his own hidden emotions in this Regency-era matchmaking tale gone awry.
For one night only, a fabulous cast of Toronto’s funniest trans queer performers – including Lior Maharjan as matriarch Lady Bartley – will read through the script in their best Regency-era British accents, with a string quartet playing pop hits like Britney Spears’ “Toxic” to set the mood. What more could any Jane Austen fan want?
Come enjoy a lighthearted, queer romance at The Second City’s Theatre ’73!
